Oh! It is summertime!! Be careful with dough times!

Zeist, June 22nd, 2010

It is June and in many countries temperatures are rising. In laboratories without proper climate control, temperatures can increase to working conditions to more than 35 degrees Celsius.

Be aware that high temperatures are effecting the working condition of the denture materials. Vertex Dental calculated the mixing ratio’s, the mixing times and the dough times at an average room temperature of 22 degrees Celsius.

Take care of the fact that high temperatures will speed up the catalysator system in the cross linking process. In other words after mixing the powder and the liquid, the dough will become stiff too fast. A polymer powder particle needs sufficient time to absorb the monomer completely. Rapid Simplified needs 15 minutes dough time. When the technician is pressing after 10 minutes because the dough is getting too stiff, the time is finally too short to absorb the monomer completely and this can result in a white surface on the denture.

Our proposal in this regard is to store the monomer in a small fridge at +/- 6 degrees. Then even with temperatures higher than 35 degrees, the dough time will be no problem. In case of any questions, do not hesitate to contact Vertex-Dental B.V..
